I am fascinated by people and am driven by a desire to explore, develop and honour the stories of extraordinary individuals and organisations, illustrating their narratives in a creative way which respects their values, demonstrates their strengths and celebrates their achievements.
I have worked as a photographer, director & producer for 15 years, travelling to over 20 countries in Africa, Asia and Europe for a diverse portfolio of clients, working either as an independent creative or building teams to meet specific needs of individual projects.
I am Kenyan born, and Africa based. My ability to converse in English, Swahili and French has enabled me to engage on a more personal and direct level with many of those whose stories I am documenting.

“Few people have the ability to take all the hassle out of complex productions, deliver world-class content way past expectations and maintain a smile like Sala! When searching for production companies to film a documentary in a Tanzanian refugee camp, it didn’t hit me that the recommendation of one Sala was more powerful that an entire production company.
Very quickly, I realised that she knew the people, places and stories we needed to tell and had a network of support to help us deliver it. I was very fortunate to be on location to see years of experience and a natural ability to multilingually communicate to many people, whilst creatively constructing an emotional and impactful documentary. Sala’s energy for life, planning expertise and desire to create an enabling environment for people to tell their own amazing stories in their own way, is a special characteristic that many look for, but rarely find. Sala’s approach is matched by a strong skill set, comprising of creative direction, photography, project management and production. Sala creates amazing content and those who are looking for the best, should speak to her.” Pritesh Chauhan, Senior Marketing Manager, GSMA
”Sala’s images tell the most engaging, empowering, and often heart-wrenching stories in a way that really captures the essence of the person and their environment. Her gorgeous portraits in particular have been key to us in securing fantastic media and social coverage for our campaigns, and she is able to be extremely creative in challenging situations, for example when people need to remain anonymous in the images. Her experience and understanding of the communities we work with is invaluable when it comes to making people feel comfortable in front of the camera, and that really comes across in her photos. She is a consummate professional, and is an asset to have around high-profile stakeholders who find her warmth and knowledge a reassuring presence.” Laura MacLeman, Press & Media Manager, Plan International UK
